Netflix Approves New Season of ‘Life On Our Planet’ Series Featuring Narrator Morgan Freeman and EP Steven Spielberg

Netflix has announced the green light for a new documentary series, considered the “next iteration” of its Emmy-contending show “Life on Our Planet.” Legendary actor Morgan Freeman will be returning as the narrator, with Steven Spielberg joining as executive producer.

The upcoming untitled series, produced by Silverback Films and Amblin Documentaries, will delve into the story of the rise and fall of dinosaurs, exploring their origins, significance, evolution, and eventual extinction.

The first season of “Life on Our Planet” not only focused on dinosaurs but also examined the evolution of invertebrates, mammals, plants, and other life forms throughout billions of years. The show will once again feature Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) for visual effects and animation, with Grammy Award-winner Lorne Balfe returning as the composer.

Silverback Films showrunner Dan Tapster expressed his excitement about bringing the iconic creatures of Earth’s history to the screen, highlighting the detail and drama that the new series will capture. Executive producers Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey from Amblin Television & Documentaries also shared their enthusiasm for partnering again with Silverback, Netflix, and ILM to bring dinosaurs back to life on screen.

The new series will be directed by Nick Shoolingin-Jordan, with executive producers including Spielberg, Keith Scholey, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey. Freeman, a two-time Emmy nominee for Best Narrator, will bring his renowned voice to the documentary.

The first season of “Life on Our Planet” premiered on Netflix in October and consisted of 8 episodes. The upcoming dinosaur-centered iteration has been ordered for four episodes, promising viewers an immersive journey into the world of these prehistoric creatures.
