‘Spectacular Lake Minnetonka Family Getaway Built by Nor-Son’

Theresa and Jim Wise found themselves inexplicably drawn to a Lake Minnetonka property in 2019, despite its dated A-frame cabin and obscured lake views. The couple saw potential in the property as a future year-round home, but their plans accelerated when the pandemic hit, prompting them to transform the cabin into a cozy retreat for their family.

The Wises’ decision to build a new home led them to Nor-Son Custom Builders, known for blending traditional and contemporary architecture. With the help of architectural designer David C. Zweber and Kelly McGauley of Leona Rose Interiors, the couple embarked on creating a 5,500-square-foot modern lakeside masterpiece that maximized stunning blufftop views.

The design team worked around the challenges of the narrow lot, incorporating different ceiling heights and interior limestone columns to define distinct spaces within the house. Walls of windows were strategically placed to capture the picturesque views, while various rooms opened up to outdoor areas complete with fireplaces and heaters.

The lower level of the home features floor-to-ceiling windows, providing a bright and inviting space for the family. Despite setbacks, the team cleverly carved out a sunken area in the lot for outdoor activities like lawn games, a firepit, and a hot tub. Theresa and Jim are thrilled with the outcome, as the house has become the perfect gathering place for their family.

As Theresa delved into her family history, she discovered a photo of her parents on Lake Minnetonka from 1960, sparking a deeper connection to the area. The sentimental discovery added to the Wises’ love for their new home, solidifying their belief that they were meant to create lasting memories in this special place.
