Official launch of Wisbech Grammar School’s new park & scoot initiative featuring government-funded scooter pod.

Wisbech Grammar School has unveiled a new initiative to encourage more pupils to cycle or scoot to school. The school recently launched a park and scoot scheme, complete with a scooter pod funded by a government grant.

The aim of the park and scoot scheme is to promote sustainable modes of transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and contribute to a healthier environment. The newly installed scooter pod provides a safe and convenient storage area for students to keep their scooters during the school day.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the scheme was attended by the school’s road safety ambassadors, who played a key role in advocating for the initiative. School officials expressed their enthusiasm for the potential impact of the scheme on the school community.

“We are incredibly proud to launch the Park & Scoot scheme,” said Barney Rimmer, the headmaster. “This initiative not only encourages healthier lifestyles but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability and road safety. We are grateful for the government funding that made the scooter pod possible and look forward to seeing our students utilize this new facility.”

The park and scoot scheme is scheduled to roll out across the school community in the coming weeks, and students and parents are encouraged to participate in this sustainable travel initiative.

In addition to this exciting development, WGS (Prep School) has been approved for the Good level Modeshift STARS accreditation, recognizing the school’s dedication to promoting sustainable travel within the community. This achievement highlights the school’s participation in the National School Travel Awards and its commitment to sustainable travel.

Wisbech Grammar School is proud to be the only independent school in the county to receive this prestigious award. Over 70 schools in Cambridgeshire submitted their travel plans this year, making this recognition even more commendable.
