Support Staff: Contribute to RazorGifts

RazorGifts Program Seeks Donations to Brighten Holiday Season for Staff Families

December 02, 2024

The holiday season is a time of giving, and this year, the University of Arkansas’ RazorGifts Staff Holiday Giving program is stepping up to support families in need within its own community. For those who may not be familiar, RazorGifts is an employee-driven initiative designed to assist the children of university employees, and this year’s program is seeking donations to meet an unprecedented demand.

The Staff Senate, which oversees the RazorGifts program, recently announced they will be aiding 28 staff families this holiday season—an impressive threefold increase compared to the previous year. This surge in applications reflects not only the ongoing challenges many face but also the growing awareness and participation within the university community to provide support.

To lend a helping hand, community members are encouraged to either purchase a gift or make a monetary donation. An online gift registry has been established through Giftster, making it easy for donors to browse and select gifts for the families directly. Simply search for “Staff Senate RazorGifts” and click on the specially designated group link labeled Razorgifts 2024. This convenience allows staff and faculty to make a big impact with just a few clicks.

Important Logistics for Your Contributions

Those wishing to contribute gifts should ensure that all items are delivered to Becca Clifton at RCED 140 or ordered online for direct shipping. To guarantee that gifts arrive in time for holiday distribution, all donations must be received by December 13. In addition to physical gifts, donations of wrapping materials such as paper, tape, and decorative ribbons are also welcomed, as these essentials can help make the gifts even more special.

If you’re unable to buy gifts directly, consider making a monetary contribution. Donors can purchase Amazon gift cards through the gift registry, which will then be used to secure remaining gifts not selected before the deadline. Gift card donations can be sent directly via email to ssgifts@uark.edu. This flexibility ensures that every contribution, no matter its form, can help bring joy to the lives of staff families during this festive season.

For detailed instructions on purchasing gifts and shipping information, visit the RazorGifts website. If you have any questions or require more information, you can reach out directly to Becca Clifton or Autumn Parker at the same email address mentioned above.

Understanding RazorGifts

The RazorGifts program is unique within the university, as it is entirely funded and conducted by employees for employees. This means gifts are not given to the university itself but directly to the dependent children of university staff. It’s important to note that the University of Arkansas does not financially participate in this initiative, making the employee contributions even more significant.

The program serves as a vital support system during a time when many may struggle to provide holiday cheer for their children. It reinforces a sense of community and camaraderie among university employees, reminding us all of the spirit of giving that defines the holiday season.

About Staff Senate

The Staff Senate at the University of Arkansas has been a voice for staff since its establishment in 1976. According to Board of Trustees Policy 810.1, elected senators represent staff concerns and advocate for improvements in various areas, from compensation and health benefits to safety and workplace conditions. The Senate is dedicated to enhancing the overall quality of work life and ensuring staff members feel recognized and valued.

Moreover, the Staff Senate orchestrates several programs aimed at celebrating staff excellence, including the Employees of the Quarter & Year initiatives, the annual Staff Appreciation Picnic, and, of course, the RazorGifts program.

Monthly meetings allow for open communication and collaboration, ensuring that all staff voices are heard. These meetings take place every second Wednesday from 1:30 PM to 3 PM, and both in-person and virtual attendance options are available. For more information about these meetings, sitting senators, and other staff-related inquiries, visit the Staff Senate website.

As we approach the holidays, consider participating in RazorGifts to help make the season a little brighter for your fellow university staff members. Your generosity could make a significant difference in a family’s holiday experience!
