‘An Exceptional Summer Concert Series at Caramoor’

This summer, the Hudson Valley’s Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah is set to host a stellar lineup of concerts that cater to a wide range of musical tastes. With over 40 performances featuring rising stars and award-winning artists spanning various genres such as classical, folk, Broadway, jazz, and contemporary music, Caramoor is the place to be for live music enthusiasts.

Originally the country estate of banker and arts patron Walter T. Rosen and his wife Lucie Bigelow Rosen, whose claim to fame was being a prominent electronic musician, Caramoor boasts an 80-acre property with five venues that have become synonymous with hosting top-notch musical performances in the region.

To kick off the season, Caramoor is offering two free public events that showcase the diverse musical offerings that await attendees. “Soundscapes” on June 9 will be a day-long sound art event featuring live performances and workshops, while “Celebrating Juneteenth” on June 16 will feature Charles Turner & Uptown Swing playing music from the 1920s to the present in the outdoor Friends Field venue.

The concert season at Caramoor continues with a tribute to Duke Ellington by iconic trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on June 22. Additionally, the American Roots Music Festival on June 29 and the Jazz Festival on July 27 promise immersive experiences into American music genres, headlined by renowned artists like Madison Cunningham and Matthew Whitaker.

Other notable performances at Caramoor include Tony Award winner Sutton Foster on July 13, pianist Richard Goode on August 2, Rhiannon Giddens on August 3, and a reunion of rootsy supergroup Ollabelle on August 9. The venue will also host large-scale movement-centered events like a production of Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen” on July 20 and a performance by the Mark Morris Dance Group on August 1.

For enthusiasts of orchestral music, Caramoor has a diverse lineup including The Knights with Aaron Diehl on June 30, Apollo’s Fire on July 28, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s with guest performers Miloš and Jeremy Denk on various dates in July and August.

In addition to the concerts, Caramoor offers visitors the chance to explore the grounds and enjoy music in intimate settings, such as Concerts for Little Ones and Recitals in the Music Room. Tours of the Rosen House and Afternoon Tea provide a glimpse into Caramoor’s rich history.
