The Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) has added the Egyptian Museum in Cairoβs Al-Tahrir square, the ancient village of Shali in Siwa Oasis, and Baron Empainβs Palace on its list of heritage sites.
The institutionβs Cultural Committee inscribed the new sites during its last meeting in Rabat, Morocco, after the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism submitted files of these sitesβ archaeological and artistic dimensions, a government’s statement cited Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, as saying on Monday.
ICESCO, an international non-profit organisation under the umbrella of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), added the Red Monastery in Sohag and the Raoudha Nilometre in Cairo to its final list of heritage sites in 2019.
It also added El-Qasr City and El Bagawat Necropolis in the New Valley to the tentative list.

The statement said the latest comprehensive restoration work carried out in Shali village and Baron Empainβs Palace helped the two sites to be added to the ICESCOβs list.
