Environmentally friendly start-up DuraPik launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new set of sustainable flossing solutions. The ergonomically designed dental picks are made from recycled, surgical-grade stainless steel and come in a kit with DuraPik’s unique, organic dental floss. The dishwasher-safe picks come with a Lifetime Warranty and will begin delivery, in eco-friendly packaging, later this year.
Flossing is an important part of any oral hygiene routine. Experts and health organizations, including the American Dental Association, recommend daily flossing to clean between teeth to remove plaque. Pulling out a spool of floss isn’t always practical, and single-use plastic dental picks end up in landfills.

In 2015, the University of Georgia estimated that between 4.8 million and 12.7 million metric tons of plastic waste makes it to the ocean every year. Solutions that replace single-use plastic products with durable, environmentally friendly alternatives are needed as we work to replace items used daily. Switching to one DuraPik can prevent roughly 350 single-use dental picks a year from entering oceans and landfills.
Additionally, standard dental floss is made from nylon or petrochemicals, both of which are harmful to wildlife. To solve this environmental issue, DuraPik has paired the dental picks with their original, compostable, vegan-friendly dental floss. The unique DuraPik-branded DuraFloss is an organic, biodegradable, peppermint-infused bamboo floss coated with organic candelilla wax. A 30m roll is included in each DuraPik kit.
Every DuraPik is made of a stainless steel frame that’s sterilizable. A reusable toothpick made of medical-grade silicone tucks inside the handle of DuraPik for easy access whenever it’s needed.
