Kids Can Explore Under the Sea at This Immersive Exhibit

“Voyage to the Deep: An Immersive Children’s Exhibit at Please Touch Museum”
The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia is set to launch an exciting new interactive exhibit, “Voyage to the Deep – Underwater Adventures,” on Saturday, inviting children and families to explore the wonders of the ocean without the challenges of maritime navigation or current geopolitical issues. This innovative exhibit offers a creative homage to Jules Verne’s literary classic, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” featuring elements that will captivate and educate young visitors.
The exhibit includes a meticulously re-created version of the magnificent submarine, the Nautilus, allowing children to engage in imaginative play by exploring and piloting the vessel. While navigating the Nautilus, families will encounter a variety of interactive installations, including a kitchen filled with “fun and unusual foods,” an imaginative octopus garden, a code-cracking station, a vibrant kelp forest, and a playful pipe organ that encourages musical experimentation. However, visitors should remain on the lookout for a giant squid playfully suspended from the ceiling, adding an element of surprise and joy to the journey.
As children immerse themselves in this nautical adventure, they will learn valuable lessons about the diverse ecosystems that exist within the ocean’s depths. The exhibit aims to educate young minds about marine habitats and the cutting-edge techniques used by scientists to explore and study these underwater environments. Furthermore, it introduces fundamental concepts related to submersible technology, including periscopes and diving equipment, combining education with fun.
“This immersive, multi-sensory experience invites young explorers to chart their own course through the exhibit,” said Olivia Thomas, Chief Learning Officer at Please Touch Museum. “With no set path to follow, families are empowered to be creative, compassionate, confident, and curious as they navigate the five-part sea vessel together.”
“Voyage to the Deep” is designed for children aged 2-10 and promises to be an enriching experience for families seeking both entertainment and education. The exhibit is scheduled to remain on view until Saturday, May 10, 2024, making it an excellent opportunity for spring outings.
