Registration Open for Youth Summer Camps at Washtenaw Community College
March 24, 2025 – WCC Public Relations
Washtenaw Community College (WCC) has announced the opening of registration for its week-long summer camps tailored for youth aged 9 to 18. These camps, designed to engage and inspire future innovators, will be held during July and August at the WCC campus located at 4800 E. Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor.
This year, WCC is offering a diverse array of 20 camps that aim to ignite the passions of young learners across a range of disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Each camp is structured to provide hands-on experience and real-world applications, ultimately fostering skills that are crucial in today’s competitive landscape.
An open house event, scheduled for April 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Morris Lawrence Building, Room 150, will provide prospective campers and their families with an opportunity to learn more about the various camp offerings and to meet instructors proficient in their respective fields. These educators collaborate with organizations deeply entrenched in relevant subject matters, enhancing the unique learning experiences offered through the camps.
One notable collaboration this year is the NASA Space Explorer camp, which partners with Mad Science Detroit and NASA itself, providing participants with an authentic exploration of space science. Such partnerships not only enrich the instructional quality but also connect campers with professional networks that may influence their future educational and career choices.
Among the camps available this summer are:
– Eureka STEM Maker Camp (Ages 9-12, July 7-11): A hands-on exploration designed to inspire the next generation of inventors and scientists through engaging STEM activities.
– JavaScript AI App Coding (Ages 10-12, July 14-18): A deep dive into programming and artificial intelligence, where campers can create their own app games.
– Underground Explorers (Ages 9-12, July 28-August 1): An interactive camp for young archaeologists and paleontologists, uncovering mysteries of ancient civilizations.
– Intro to Drones for Youth (Ages 10-14, August 4-8): An innovative program focusing on drone technology and skill development through the use of simulators.
These programs aim not only to educate but also to enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills among the youth. Registration is currently open, and interested parties can visit the WCC Summer Camp webpage for a complete list of camps and online registration.
This initiative is part of WCC’s broader mission to provide accessible educational opportunities and develop the next generation of thinkers and innovators within the community. For inquiries, Sophia McCain can be reached via email at [email protected].
