PLASA Hosts “Self-Cariño Kits” Event to Support Latine Students During Finals Period

As the semester draws to a close, the Princeton Latine Students Alliance (PLASA) is organizing an engaging initiative aimed at fostering community and self-care among Latine students and the broader university population. The “Self-Cariño Kits” event is scheduled for December 7, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in Frist Campus Center, Room 207, providing a timely opportunity for students to prepare for the upcoming finals week while prioritizing their well-being during a traditionally stressful period.

The Self-Cariño Kits event allows students to assemble personalized care packages filled with a variety of items intended to support mental and emotional health. Participants will have the chance to select from an array of authentic candies sourced from regions across Latin America, as well as soothing self-care products such as face masks, stress balls, and culturally significant trinkets. This initiative not only offers practical support but also serves as a celebration of Latine heritage, fostering a sense of belonging and community during a critical time of the academic year.

The event is designed to be interactive and engaging, encouraging students to take an active role in curating their own kits with their preferred items. However, due to limited availability, attendees are advised to arrive early to ensure they have the opportunity to collect their desired products. Notably, the supplies for this event are capped, with only 100 bags available for the first 100 participants who arrive. This limitation adds an element of urgency, motivating students to participate promptly.

As finals week approaches, research has shown that students can benefit from self-care strategies to help mitigate stress and anxiety. By creating these care packages, PLASA aims to provide not only tangible items but also a communal space where students can come together, share experiences, and support one another in their academic pursuits.

The Self-Cariño Kits event exemplifies PLASA’s commitment to promoting student wellness and solidarity within the Latine community. It is an invitation to prioritize self-care while connecting with peers during one of the busiest times of the academic calendar. For Latine students and others seeking support, this event represents a meaningful opportunity to cultivate care and resilience in the face of academic challenges.
